#PinoyFitspiration 12: Coach Joshua Gayta

It’s been a while since we have featured a #PinoyFitspiration due to super busy work schedule lately, so my apologies!

But this guy right here deserves an applause and recognition: Coach Joshua.

He’s one of the many great Physical Trainers of Gold’s Gym Philippines. Also, he has recently won 2 placements in the recently concluded Australasian Natural Bodybuilding (ANB) Universe Weekend 2017 held here in the Philippines: 2nd Place at ANB Fitness Model Under 25, and 4th Place at ANB Novice Fitness Model.

Now eyeing for a spot at the upcoming Gold’s Gym BodyCon 2017, take a moment to read as here’s a little more to know about him when we had a quick interview with our latest #PinoyFitspiration 12: Professional Fitness Trainer and Coach Joshua Callangan Gayta.

It’s our coach right here: Gold’s Gym Twin Oaks PT Joshua Gayta.

How long have you been a personal trainer?

A year and a half, Golds was my very first job after I graduated. But been working with athletes since I was 17 and I am now 25, but it was for free back then. Not yet professional.

When did you realize that you have a passion in fitness and what made you to take the path to becoming a fitness instructor / trainer?

Started playing different kind of sports when I was 8. Since then I never leaved the game. My uncle and brother are both fitness trainer at Golds. So it has to be fitness trainer for me and at Golds too.

What was the common reason people run to a personal trainer from your experience and common clientele? Was it more of weight loss, or bodybuilding?

Both! For skinny guys they tend to body build. But not actually a body builder type of body, but more on a hunk/beach body type. For heavier guys they prefer most of the time to lose as much weight as they can.

When you do your workouts, try to focus on core lifts.

Let’s jump to your OWN workout. Can you take us to your training routine? What is it like?

For me off season is for bulking up, lots of clean eating. Gathering all the body weight I can get, gaining muscle as much as I can. Because when I start shredding up, it would be a very different thing. It goes the other way around, goal became to lose fat while not losing too much muscle, so timing would be everything.

Can you tell us your top 3 favorite exercises and what do you love about them?

Squats, Deadlifts and Bench Press. The three core lifts, which everybody would benefit most. Whether you are an athlete or not.

Do you have any advice for those who need help improving their body?

Yes, if there is one advice I could give it would be hard work and consistency. Because as you can see, world has its own give and take process. The more effort you put in, the more results you can get. Life wouldn’t give you what you want, life would give you what you deserve. So work hard and be consistent about it and do believe in yourself, because if you don’t… nobody else would.

In your own opinion, how many hours would it require for a man to get an optimal workout and how many times a week?

45 minutes, if 45 minutes wasn’t enough for your designed training regime. You have to split your workout into two. For a busy office guy person train atleast three times a week, but if you’re a competitive athlete. Move your lazy ass up and train atleast 6 times a week.

#RelatableFitness Question: Do you allow yourself to have cheat days? If you do, what are your favorite foods you allow yourself to indulge in?

Yes I do, I eat a lot of sushi and sashimi. Probably the best cheat meal I could get, but still healthy.

Any supplement you’d like to share? Would you advice your clients to take them?

Creatine and Protein, would take you a long way. My two all time favorites.

After winning 2 placements at the ANB Universe Weekend, what’s your next big step?

I’m looking to join Golds Gym Bodycon this coming December. As a fitness trainer at Golds, for me it is a must competition that I should join for I am a Golds Gym personal trainer and I take pride being one.

It always feels good to be recognized with all your hardwork: Joshua winning 2 placements at the ANB Universe Weekend 2017.

Before we end this interview, what’s your biggest advise to those who wants to start a healthier, fitter lifestyle?

First is to decide, second is to accept. That the moment you decide to change, everything would be all uphill, hard work and sweat will be put in. You will be put into the test, whether how bad do you really want it. But no matter how hard it is, even results won’t show up right away. Remember to keep your goals aligned while maintaining full hold of yourself.

What’s your favorite fitness quote or mantra you can’t live without?

My lovely mentor told me this once. And it never leave my mind since then “To look beyond the glory is the hardest part… for a hero’s strength is measured by his heart.”

And lastly, go ahead and send your shout outs!

Shout out to the team, coaches, family, friends, clients who stand beside me.. who always got my back, through ups and downs of my roller coaster career. I’d like to thank you from the bottom of my heart!

“To look beyond the glory is the hardest part… for a hero’s strength is measured by his heart.”

Catch coach Joshua at Gold’s Gym Twin Oaks Place branch in Mandaluyong City. ‘Til our next Pinoy Fitspiration! Cheers!
