Question:
How Much Sugar Is “Too Much”?
“MyFitnessPal recommends around 50g of sugar daily. Some days I can be close to 100g and even 130g.
Today, I’ve eaten 2,500 calories so far (another 800 to go since I’m bulking) and I’ve already consumed 86g of sugar. Looks like over half of that is coming from the 1 Liter of milk I’ve had. I do not drink soda or energy drinks. I also do not put sugar in my coffee.
I’ll probably hit 100g of sugar by the end of the day. Is this too much? What number should I be aiming for?
Our Answer:
Brother, sugar is just a simple carb. You do not need to track it as sugar, unless you’re really diabetic. Just add it to your total carb intake for the day.
Obviously since it is void of micronutrients, you will want to keep it low.
But overall, it just simply doesn’t matter how much you have if you are still hitting your carb macros for the day.
On the other hand, the American Heart Association (AHA) recommends limiting the amount of added sugars (sugars or caloric sweeteners that are added to foods or beverages during processing or preparation) you consume to no more than half of your daily discretionary calories allowance.
At the end of the day, you can’t cut out everything of everything! You gotta eat!
